Alex Blazar Paternostro (b. 1997) is an interdisciplinary American artist whose work revolves around character(s). His ideas take shape in paintings (oil and acrylic), as well as film collaborations with his identical twin brother, Seth. Having received his BA in English from Princeton University prior to studying the visual arts, Alex also writes poetry and makes prints, finding that no single medium can express all that he seeks.

While he references art history, the Western literary canon, photography, film, and the internet’s mass collection of culture, his work is automatic in nature. He employs traditional techniques and experiments with new ones to engage in a multi-pronged conversation with our shared culture.

Freedom matters to Alex. As a mirror to the myriad complexities and emotions that we all face in contemporary life, his diverse art practice asks questions about individuality, memory, the visual's relation to the aural, and how one might engage with opposition, “authority,” and/or family. How is each of us oneself, a combination of others, and part of a totemic whole? Always in search of unexpected connections, he wonders...
